Rajasthan Royals Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
In a thrilling match, Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured their spot in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs by overcoming Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a convincing 7-wicket victory. The standout performer for RR was the remarkable 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who played a pivotal role in the chase of 220 runs. Sooryavanshi delivered an impressive innings, scoring 93 runs and narrowly missing out on a century. Post-match, he engaged in a conversation with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, which caught the attention of Sunil Gavaskar, who expressed his excitement in the commentary box. Gavaskar humorously hinted at the possibility of LSG bidding for the young talent in future IPL auctions, saying, “I will be bidding for you soon.”
Sooryavanshi's Record-Breaking Performance
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Record Breaking Knock
During his innings against LSG, Sooryavanshi hit an impressive 10 sixes, marking the third occasion in his career where he has achieved double-digit sixes in an IPL match. Previously, he hit 11 sixes against GT in the 2025 IPL and 12 against SRH earlier this season. This feat places him alongside Chris Gayle, who has accomplished this four times, as only the second player to achieve this milestone three times.
Sooryavanshi has now hit 50 sixes in the 2026 IPL, making him the first Indian to reach this milestone in a single season and only the third player in IPL history, following Gayle and Andre Russell. With a total of 53 sixes in the tournament, he holds the record for the second-most sixes ever. Additionally, he has become the first teenager to surpass 500 runs in a single IPL season, breaking the previous record held by Rishabh Pant, who was 20 years old when he scored 684 runs in IPL 2018. Sooryavanshi has also set a world record as the youngest player to score over 500 runs in any T20 tournament, surpassing Devdutt Padikkal's record from the 2019 Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy.
