Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shatters IPL Records with Stellar Performance
Record-Breaking Performance by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
In a remarkable display of talent, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his impressive streak in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on April 28. The 15-year-old cricketer set a new record previously held by Andre Russell for seven years. Opening the innings for RR, Sooryavanshi helped his team chase a daunting target of 223 runs, contributing significantly with a blistering 43 runs off just 16 balls before being dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in the fourth over. His innings boasted a phenomenal strike rate of 268.75, featuring three fours and five sixes.
Sooryavanshi Makes History
During his innings, Sooryavanshi reclaimed the Orange Cap and became the first player this season to surpass 400 runs. He has amassed 400 runs in just nine innings at an impressive strike rate of 238.09, including two half-centuries and one century. This season, he has hit 34 boundaries and 37 sixes, reaching the 400-run milestone in only 167 balls, the fastest in the league's 19-year history. While there have been 229 instances of players scoring over 400 runs in an IPL season, none have done it quicker than this young prodigy. The previous record was held by Andre Russell, with Abhishek Sharma being the fastest Indian before Sooryavanshi. He is now the fourth player to achieve 400 runs in a season while facing fewer than 200 balls.
