Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Aims for Test Cricket Glory with India
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Aspirations in Cricket
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has expressed his desire to represent India in Test cricket following his selection for the national squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games. At just 15 years old, he is on the verge of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record, potentially becoming the youngest male cricketer to compete internationally for India.
Sooryavanshi has captured attention with his remarkable performance in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he amassed 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237. His dynamic batting style has not only set new benchmarks but has also raised questions about his future in Test cricket. Despite skepticism regarding his ability to excel in the longer format, the Rajasthan Royals player is determined to prove himself.
In a recent conversation, he emphasized his commitment to Test cricket, stating, "Many have asked if I aspire to play red-ball cricket. I have been practicing extensively with the red ball and continue to do so. I have also participated in numerous red-ball matches for my state and still do." He clarified that his aggressive T20 approach should not overshadow his adaptability across formats.
Sooryavanshi elaborated, "I want to play red-ball cricket because I train for it regularly. My batting style in T20 is tailored to the format's requirements. When I transition to red-ball cricket, I will modify my approach accordingly. My ultimate goal is to play all three formats, and I leave the rest to fate." The young talent has already played eight first-class matches for Bihar, scoring 207 runs with one half-century, and has also represented the Indian U-19 team in six Youth Tests, accumulating 331 runs, including two centuries against Australia.
