Uttarakhand Hosts 25th All India Police Water Sports Championship

The 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship has been inaugurated in Uttarakhand, featuring 51 competitions and participation from 19 teams. With events including canoeing and rowing, the championship aims to promote sportsmanship and national integration. The picturesque Tehri Lake serves as the backdrop for this exciting event, which runs from April 8 to 12. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his support for the teams, while the ITBP organizes the championship to showcase the capabilities of police forces in water sports. Additionally, a recent MoU aims to strengthen local economies in border areas.

Inauguration of the Championship

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 8: The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, inaugurated the 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship through a virtual ceremony at the Water Sports and Adventure Institute located in Tehri Garhwal on Wednesday.


Event Highlights

During his address, CM Dhami expressed, “I have been informed that this championship will feature 51 different competitions, including rowing, canoeing, and trekking. I extend my best wishes to all participating teams.”


Participation and Competitions

Sanjay Gunjyal, Additional Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), shared that the event has attracted 19 teams from various Central Armed Police Forces and state police units nationwide.


Among the participating forces are the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), ITBP, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Assam Rifles, along with police contingents from multiple states and union territories.


Events and Athletes

The championship will feature a total of 52 events, which include 18 canoeing races, 18 kayaking races, and 16 rowing races. Approximately 470 athletes are competing, with around 130 women and 340 men participating.


This event, organized by the ITBP, is taking place at Wasai in Tehri, Uttarakhand, from April 8 to 12, set against the picturesque backdrop of Tehri Lake. Senior officials, including Shatrujeet Kapur, attended the inauguration.


Goals of the Championship

The championship aims to foster sportsmanship, discipline, and national unity while highlighting the skills of police forces in water sports.


Recent Initiatives

Earlier last week, CM Dhami facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at his residence under the 'Vibrant Village Programme'. This initiative is designed to bolster local economies in border regions, with an agreement between the ITBP and the Uttarakhand Horticulture Board to support the procurement of locally sourced fruits and vegetables for ITBP units stationed throughout the state.
