Uttarakhand Cricketer Rajan Kumar Faces Provisional Suspension for Doping Violation
Rajan Kumar's Doping Case
Rajan Kumar, a left-arm pacer from Uttarakhand, has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after failing a dope test, marking a rare incident in cricket.
The 29-year-old's sample tested positive for anabolic steroids, specifically Drostanolone and Metenolone, along with Clomifene, a substance typically used to treat female infertility but also known to help restore testosterone levels in men.
Kumar's last appearance on the field was during a match against Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Group D, held in Ahmedabad on December 8, 2025.
Instances of cricketers failing dope tests are uncommon; notable cases include Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Anshula Rao in 2020 and Prithvi Shaw in 2019.
In a related note, Nongmaithem Ratanbala Devi, a footballer, has also been listed among athletes facing provisional suspensions due to a positive test for the anabolic steroid Metandienone.
Other athletes facing similar issues include Gaurav Patel (athletics), Khushboo Kumari (weightlifting), Achalveer Karwasra (boxing), and Siddhant Sharma (polo).
Additionally, Tamil Nadu sprinter Dhanalakshmi Sekar has received an eight-year ban, effective from September 9, 2025, after testing positive for Drostanolone for the second time in her career, following a previous three-year suspension for a doping violation in 2022.
