Uttar Pradesh Hosts Junior National Rowing Championship
Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 20: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh is set to participate in the closing and awards ceremony of the 46th Junior National Rowing Championship at Ramgarh Tal this Thursday. His presence aims to motivate young athletes and present accolades to the winners in various categories.
Before the award distribution, the Chief Minister will observe two final events of the championship. He is also expected to address the athletes and officials during the closing ceremony, as per the official announcement.
This championship, taking place at the Water Sports Complex in Ramgarh Tal, has attracted 273 athletes and officials from 20 different states, including the host state of Uttar Pradesh. The event commenced on May 17 and will conclude on May 21.
Event officials noted that the Chief Minister has been instrumental in transforming Ramgarh Tal into a significant hub for water sports in India.
In addition to extensive beautification efforts around the lake, a state-of-the-art Water Sports Complex, valued at nearly Rs 49 crore, has been constructed near the venue, allowing Gorakhpur to regularly host national-level rowing competitions.
Sudhir Sharma, Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Rowing Association and Vice President of the Rowing Federation of India, remarked that this championship highlights Ramgarh Tal's rising prominence on the national rowing scene.
This event is part of a series of significant rowing competitions held at this venue. Previously, Ramgarh Tal hosted rowing events during the Khelo India University Games in 2023, followed by the Sub-Junior National Rowing Championship in October 2024.
Recently, the national women's rowing team conducted a training camp at this location in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games.
Earlier this month, the Asmita National Women’s Rowing League was also held at Ramgarh Tal, further solidifying Gorakhpur's status as a key center for water sports in India.
