Match Overview
Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 15: In the eighth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season, UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to field first against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday.
Currently, UP Warriorz find themselves at the bottom of the points table with three consecutive losses, while the Mumbai Indians hold the second position with two victories and one defeat.
After the toss, Lanning remarked, “Chasing has proven effective here, allowing us to utilize the ball first. We are sticking with the same team, as we believe this gives us the best opportunity. The quick succession of games can be beneficial. There’s a lot of talent in our squad, and we’re working to harness it all. There’s been a lot of learning for both myself and the team. We’ve executed many things well, but we need to bring it all together,” as reported by a sports media outlet.
Mumbai Indians' captain Harmanpreet Kaur mentioned, “We have made one change – Nat (Sciver-Brunt) returns while Hayley (Matthews) is resting. (Nicola) Carey has been performing well with both bat and ball, so she will continue in the lineup. Throughout this tournament, teams have been scoring around 180 runs. In our first match here, the ball moved around early. We hope to perform well on this pitch today.”
