Celebrating Young Talent
New Delhi, March 17: Udhav Mohan, a player from India's U-19 World Cup-winning squad, received accolades from the Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA) and the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI). The young cricketer expressed that being recognized with such an award serves as a significant source of motivation for emerging players like himself.
In an interview following the ceremony, he remarked, “It’s an incredible feeling. Receiving this recognition from DSJA and SJFI is truly inspiring for young cricketers. It encourages us to strive for excellence in the future.”
Udhav participated in a single match during the Under-19 World Cup against Zimbabwe, where he made a notable impact by achieving bowling figures of 3/20 in 6.4 overs. India’s U-19 team secured their sixth title by defeating England U19 by 100 runs in the final. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honored the young athletes at the annual NAMAN Awards.
Reflecting on the recognition from the BCCI, Udhav shared, “It felt amazing. We dedicated ourselves to intense practice and overcame numerous challenges. The support from our team, staff, and fellow players made this victory even more rewarding.”
The U19 World Cup champions also had the opportunity to meet the senior men's team, who had recently won the T20 World Cup. Udhav described this encounter as a dream come true.
“It was an exhilarating experience. We were quite nervous, but we managed to engage well with the senior players,” he added.
During the event, he had a memorable interaction with Hardik Pandya, stating, “Meeting Hardik was fantastic, especially considering his journey through tough times and his remarkable comeback. It was inspiring to see him succeed.”
Udhav also mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah is his role model, saying, “I plan to concentrate on my practice and dedicate all my time to it. I aim to excel in the upcoming domestic season.”
