Tributes Pour In for Bhagwandas Raikwar, Padma Shri Awardee and Martial Arts Guardian

Bhagwandas Raikwar, affectionately known as 'Dau', a prominent figure in the realm of Bundeli Martial Arts and a Padma Shri awardee, passed away on Saturday night in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, at the age of 83.
His son, Rajkumar Raikwar, shared that Bhagwandas took his last breath at AIIMS Bhopal around 10:00 PM.
On Sunday morning, a funeral procession commenced from the Chhatrasal Akhada Complex at his residence in Rampura, where he was honored with full state rites at Naryawali Naka Muktidham.
A significant number of dignitaries, along with police and administrative officials, gathered to pay their respects to Bhagwandas Raikwar, a revered figure in Bundelkhand and a stalwart of martial arts.
Bhagwandas was awarded the Padma Shri for his efforts in elevating the status of 'Akhada', the ancient weapon-based martial art of Bundelkhand, to an international audience. He passed away while receiving medical care, having been in declining health for several days.
The Government of India had announced the Padma Shri award for 2026 in recognition of his significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of martial arts and the 'Akhada' tradition, which is a crucial part of India's cultural heritage.
