Violent Altercation Leads to Fatality

On the night of April 5, a local cricket match in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, turned deadly when a dispute over a run-out decision escalated into violence, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old umpire. The incident occurred during a game officiated by Dola Ajith Babu and Budumuri Chiranjeevi, where players clashed over a controversial call. Initially, the umpires managed to calm the situation on the field, but tensions flared again after the match concluded.

Circle Inspector Malleswara Rao reported that the conflict continued post-game, stating, "Ajith Babu and Chiranjeevi intervened and settled the issue on the field. However, one of the spectators, Kishore, became angry and started abusing the umpires and players." The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Kanta Kishore, was not a player but a spectator who later lured the umpires to another location to resolve the dispute.

Upon arrival, another argument erupted, and Kishore allegedly brandished a knife, attacking both umpires. Reports indicate that Ajith Babu suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest, while Chiranjeevi and another individual who attempted to intervene were also injured. Witnesses noted that Kishore had previously exhibited aggressive behavior during the match and returned intoxicated to commit the assault.

Ajith Babu's brother recounted the harrowing moment, saying, "He started shouting and arguing. Suddenly, he took the knife out of his pocket and stabbed Dola Ajith in the chest." Despite attempts by bystanders to apprehend Kishore, he fled the scene. Ajith Babu was rushed to VIMS Hospital, but due to a lack of available doctors, he was transferred to Apollo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 8:15 PM.

Following the incident, Ajith Babu's father lodged a complaint, prompting police to initiate a murder investigation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are currently searching for Kishore, who remains at large. This tragic event has reignited concerns regarding safety protocols at local cricket matches in Andhra Pradesh, where large crowds often gather. Officials are urging event organizers to enhance security measures and ensure adequate medical facilities are in place to prevent future incidents.
