Tragic Passing of Boxer Prichard Colon at 33 After Long Battle with Injuries

Boxing Community Mourns the Loss of Prichard Colon

New Delhi, August 14: Prichard Colon, a former professional boxer, has sadly passed away at the young age of 33, following a prolonged struggle with severe brain injuries sustained during a match, as reported by various news outlets.

Once hailed as a rising star in boxing, Colon fell into a coma for 221 days after his fight against Terrel Williams in 2015.

The super-welterweight match, held in October 2015, concluded with Williams winning by disqualification in the ninth round after Colon's team removed his gloves due to his complaints of dizziness.

During the fight, Colon alleged that Williams had struck him with illegal blows to the back of the head, known as 'rabbit punches.' The referee issued a penalty to Williams for one of these infractions.

After the bout, Colon collapsed in his dressing room and was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, necessitating emergency brain surgery, which left him in a coma.

Upon awakening 221 days later, it became evident that he had suffered significant neurological damage, requiring continuous care for the rest of his life.

His father, Richard Colon, announced his son's passing on Facebook, stating, 'I regret to inform you of the passing of my son Prichard from this earthly world. Now he is in a better world.'

Colon was surrounded by family in Florida at the time of his death. Before his fight with Williams, he had an impressive record of 16 professional bouts, with 13 wins by knockout.
