Young Boxer Dies from Suspected Drug Overdose

Navdeep Singh, a 20-year-old boxer who recently earned gold medals at the Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan in 2024 and the Punjab State Senior Kickboxing Championship last year, tragically passed away in Mansa on Friday, reportedly due to a drug overdose.

His father, Jaspal Singh, a daily laborer, has expressed his grief and called for accountability regarding his son's death. In response, local authorities have initiated an investigation, filing charges against unidentified individuals under Section 105 of the BNS.

Navdeep was the sole son in his family, which includes two sisters. His relatives shared that he had been working as an air-conditioning mechanic in Ludhiana and had just returned home three days prior. They noted that he had gone to the market the day before his body was discovered near Arya School in Mansa.

Inspector Gurtej Singh, from the Mansa City-II police station, confirmed that a case has been opened based on the complaint from Navdeep's father, who believes his son succumbed to a drug overdose.

This unfortunate event coincided with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's visit to the town for his 'Shukrana Yatra'.
