In a remarkable display of batting, Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten 60 runs off just 29 deliveries, leading India to a formidable total of 219/5. His innings featured a striking rate of 206.90, including three sixes, effectively sealing India's score. With this performance, Tilak surpassed MS Dhoni to become India's seventh-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, amassing 1634 runs in 55 innings across 58 matches. In contrast, Dhoni accumulated 1617 runs in 85 innings over 98 matches, primarily batting lower down the order.

While Dhoni faced 1282 balls throughout his career, Tilak has batted mostly in the top four, having faced 1124 balls so far. If he maintains his current form, he could reach the 2000-run milestone by year-end. His current tally includes two centuries and nine half-centuries, along with 83 sixes and 126 fours. Notably, Dhoni never scored a century in T20Is, managing only two half-centuries.

Rohit Sharma leads the list of Indian T20I run-scorers with 4231 runs from 159 matches, including five centuries and 32 half-centuries, despite failing to score in 12 innings. Following him is Virat Kohli with 4188 runs. Both Rohit and Kohli announced their retirement from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup. Suryakumar Yadav, with 3272 runs, ranks third but faced unexpected removal from the T20I team despite leading India to victory in the 2026 World Cup.
