He expressed confidence in his ability to contribute with the ball in limited-overs formats if the situation arises.
With India leading the series 3-0, the upcoming T20Is present an opportunity for the team to secure a clean sweep, while New Zealand aims to restore pride in front of their home supporters.
Discussing his bowling prospects for T20Is and ODIs, particularly with the ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa on the horizon, Tilak, who specializes in right-arm spin, stated, “The team management and I have had discussions, and I’ve dedicated significant time to improving my bowling.”
He acknowledged the impressive performance of his Mumbai Indians teammate, Naman Dhir, who has been excelling with the ball, indicating that there is currently no pressing need for him to bowl. However, he remains ready to step in when required.
“At the moment, Naman is in the squad and performing well, so I haven’t had to bowl yet. Nevertheless, I consistently practice and feel confident in my skills. When the chance arises, I will bowl. Naman is doing a great job in T20s, and it’s important to let a bowler in form continue,” he added.
Throughout his T20I career, Tilak has claimed five wickets at an average of 12.80, maintaining an economy rate of 6.09. His overall T20 record includes 12 wickets at an average of 27.33, with his best figures being 3/31.
Naman has also made a mark, taking five wickets in five innings with an average slightly above 24, showcasing his ability to recover quickly after conceding runs.
Known for his dynamic fielding, Tilak enjoys the challenge of being an active presence on the field, making crucial saves and executing remarkable catches. He views fielding as a passion rather than a chore, attributing his success to his athleticism and dedication.
“I’ve always been a strong fielder. I don’t see fielding as a burden; I genuinely enjoy it. Playing in different conditions, like wind and cold, can be challenging, but I embrace it. The more I enjoy it, the better I perform. I take pride in my responsibilities on the field and position myself in key areas to maximize my impact. The team trusts my catching skills, which allows me to contribute significantly,” he concluded.
