Ticket Sales Uncertain for India-Pakistan T20 World Cup Clash in Colombo
Ticket Sales for the T20 World Cup Match Remain Uncertain
As the Pakistan cricket team arrives in Colombo, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has confirmed that his squad's travel arrangements for the February 15 match in Sri Lanka are in place. However, the ICC has yet to initiate ticket sales for this highly anticipated T20 World Cup encounter between India and Pakistan. Despite this uncertainty, the match is still confirmed to take place at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
Interestingly, the ICC has begun selling tickets for all other matches scheduled at the same venue, including the Super8 games, but has not done so for the India-Pakistan match. The official website states that ticket sales will 'commence soon.' This venue is set to host five league matches and three Super8 games. The Pakistan Government has suggested that its national team should withdraw from the match against India, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet communicated this decision to the ICC, leading to a delay in ticket sales.
A reliable source involved in the situation noted, 'Due to the lack of official communication from the PCB, the ICC has postponed ticket sales. They want to avoid potential losses and will wait to confirm the match's status before proceeding with ticket availability. If the match does take place, tickets will likely sell out quickly.'
During a recent captains' meeting in Colombo, Pakistan's captain Salman Agha remarked, 'The decision to play against India is beyond our control. It is a matter for the government, and we will adhere to their directives.'
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated, 'We have made our position clear regarding the T20 World Cup: we will not participate in the match against India, as politics should not interfere with sports.'
In response, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has urged the PCB to reconsider its stance on boycotting the match, warning that it could result in significant financial repercussions for all parties involved.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has announced the launch of the third phase of ticket sales, following the initial phases that began on December 11, 2025, and January 14. Tickets for India's league matches against the USA and Netherlands are currently available.
