Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], May 14: The final day of the IGU Andhra Pradesh Junior Boys Golf Championship promises to be thrilling, with just three strokes separating the top four players on the leaderboard after the second-to-last day at East Point Golf Club.
Arjun Dahiya, who led overnight, managed to maintain his position with a one-over 73, keeping him just one stroke ahead of Vihaan Jain, who also carded a 73. Meanwhile, Chaitanya Pandey (74) and Ishnidh Virdi (75) are still in the hunt, trailing by three shots.
Dahiya, who now has a three-day total of three-under 213, faced challenges on the front nine, allowing Vihaan to take a four-shot lead at the turn. Starting from the 10th tee, Dahiya encountered two three-putt bogeys on the 11th and 15th holes, along with another dropped shot on the 12th after hitting into the trees with his 3-wood.
Vihaan displayed solid play with birdies on the 15th and 17th, extending his lead. However, Dahiya made a comeback with birdies on the second and ninth holes. Vihaan stumbled with a bogey on the second and a double bogey on the ninth after hitting his 5-wood tee shot out of bounds, leaving him one shot behind Dahiya.
In Category ‘B’ (ages 13-14), Pandey has established a commanding 13-shot lead over Aditya Misra (76), finishing with an even-par total of 216.
Later, Drona Singh Dhull triumphed over Shan Alvi in a playoff to claim the Category ‘C’ (ages 11-12) title after both concluded the 54-hole event at seven-over 223.
Despite trailing by three shots before the final day, Drona shot a one-under 71 to force a playoff, while Alvi, who led for the first two days, could only manage a two-over 74 on the last day.
