Controversial Tactics on Day Three

Michael Vaughan, the former captain of England, praised Zak Crawley's time-wasting strategies at the conclusion of the third day of the ongoing Test match, calling it one of the best he has witnessed. However, he noted that India had no grounds for complaint, as they had utilized similar tactics on the previous day.

As the third day wrapped up, tensions escalated when India was unable to bowl an additional over due to Crawley's deliberate delays, which included feigning injury multiple times during Jasprit Bumrah's over. This led to a heated response from the Indian team, particularly from captain Shubman Gill.

After being dismissed for 387 runs, India had the opportunity to bowl two overs in the final session, but Crawley's actions resulted in only one over being bowled, leaving the visitors frustrated as England concluded the day at 2 runs without loss in their second innings.

Vaughan remarked on a podcast that Crawley's time-wasting was impressive, stating, 'It’s as good a piece of time-wasting I’ve ever seen.' He also pointed out that India could not complain, referencing an incident from the previous day when Gill had to leave the field due to a hamstring issue.

He emphasized that both teams were on equal footing regarding the situation, adding, 'Neither team can complain, but what great drama and what a great day. We’re in for a fourth and fifth day that will be fantastic.'

Alastair Cook, another former England captain, echoed Vaughan's sentiments, suggesting that the series, currently tied at 1-1, required such dramatic moments to enhance its excitement. He noted, 'Everyone has been so friendly, but this always happens in a series of five matches. There’s little moments after playing against each other so many times.'

Cook humorously compared Ben Duckett to a dachshund, highlighting his boldness in confronting Mohammed Siraj amidst the larger players.
