Dubai, Sep 17: Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been named the new deputy chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a position he will hold until November 2027.
Currently the Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, Mukuhlani will succeed Imran Khwaja, who has stepped down from the role.
As a member of the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) and Nominations Committees, he also leads the HR and Remuneration Committee. His appointment marks a historic moment as he becomes the first individual from Zimbabwe to assume the role of Deputy Chair at the ICC.
This appointment is particularly significant for African cricket, coinciding with Zimbabwe's preparations to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 alongside South Africa and Namibia. Mukuhlani's extensive leadership experience and regional insights will be crucial as the ICC brings this major tournament back to Africa after 24 years.
“I am truly honored by the trust my fellow ICC Board Directors have placed in me and appreciate the chance to serve as Deputy Chair of the ICC. I am eager to collaborate closely with our Chairman, Mr. Jay Shah, whose leadership has infused the ICC with a clear vision focused on expanding cricket and creating new opportunities for our Members,” Mukuhlani expressed upon his appointment.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah congratulated Mukuhlani on his election, stating, “His extensive experience in cricket administration and commitment to the sport's development will be invaluable to the ICC Board. His election is a significant achievement for Zimbabwe, marking the first time a Zimbabwean has held the Deputy Chair position.
