Dodoma [Tanzania], August 3: The chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, officially opened the Tanzania Cricket Arena on Monday, marking it as the first ICC-sanctioned cricket venue in the nation.


This inauguration signifies a pivotal moment for the advancement of cricket not only in Tanzania but throughout Africa. Shah expressed his congratulations to Cricket Tanzania for this remarkable achievement, praising the collaborative efforts that led to the establishment of top-tier cricket facilities in the country.

Since becoming an associate member of the ICC in 2001, Tanzania has achieved T20I status. According to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), which governs cricket in the country, Tanzania is one of 40 voting associate members of the ICC. The national men's team currently holds the sixth position in the men's T20I Rankings, while the women's team is ranked 20th.
