Tanvi Sharma Shines in Orleans Masters

Orleans [France], March 20: India's Tanvi Sharma showcased an impressive performance, securing her spot in the semifinals of the Orleans Masters 2026 on Friday. The talented young player triumphed over Japan's sixth seed Natsuki Nidaira, winning in straight sets with scores of 21-14, 21-14 in a match that lasted 43 minutes.


Next, she faces a formidable opponent in the semifinals: fifth seed and Olympic bronze medalist Nozomi Okuhara from Japan, as she aims for her second final appearance at a BWF Super 300 event.


In contrast, India's Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun were eliminated from the Orleans Masters 2026 after a defeat against the third-seeded Indonesian duo of Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana in the quarterfinals.


Earlier in the tournament, Tanvi, who earned a silver medal at the World Junior Championships, achieved a significant victory over the second seed Supanida Katethong from Thailand on the first day. She then faced fellow rising star Anmol Kharb in the round of 16, winning decisively in straight games, 21-14, 21-17, to advance to the quarterfinals.


In men's doubles, Hariharan and Arjun had a strong showing against Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle in their round of 16 match on March 19. They narrowly won the first game 26-24 and dominated the second 21-14, completing the match in 35 minutes to reach the quarterfinals.


Meanwhile, Indian player Ayush Shetty also exited the Orleans Open tournament after a quarterfinal loss on Friday. The 20-year-old faced Japan's Yudai Okimoto, losing in two games with scores of 21-9, 18-21, 9-21.
