Tamim Iqbal Discloses Requirements for His Stunning Return to Bangladesh Team

While Tamim Iqbal has not closed the door on a sensational return to the Bangladesh team, the former captain has said that several things need to be in the right order for his comeback. Ahead of this year's T20 World Cup, Tamim Iqbal showed that he still has a lot to offer in T20 by playing a key role in Fortune Barisal's victorious campaign in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League. The former Bangladesh captain led the team from the front and ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer.
In 15 matches, he scored 492 runs with the help of three half-centuries. He was one of the two batsmen to score more than 400 runs in BPL 2024. Tamim Iqbal's performance in the BPL was much-needed after his setbacks in recent months. The left-handed batsman sensationally announced his retirement from international cricket before reversing his decision the following day after a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He was then brutally axed for the ODI World Cup and publicly condemned by captain Shakib Al Hasan.
Tamim Iqbal on his comeback:
While many thought the World Cup snub would prompt Tamim Iqbal to hang up his boots in international cricket, the veteran opener is still open to plying his trade for his national team. However, for that to happen, it wants a lot of changes. I want to say one thing clearly. For me to come back, a lot of things have to be right otherwise there is no point for me to just come back and play," Tamim Iqbal was quoted as saying by the media.
“I'm at a point in my career where I'll probably play another two years. So I need to tell him such things and since I don't have the final word with him, it would not be appropriate for me to comment here,” he added.
Speaking further, Tamim Iqbal said that he is yet to speak to the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials, which he will do when he returns from the overseas tour.
“I haven't spoken to him (the new chief selector) yet. I was in conversation with Jalal Bhai (Jalal Yunus). I was available for conversation but unfortunately, we didn't get the chance. I will be traveling abroad tomorrow morning and hopefully we will sit down after I return,” he said. Tamim Iqbal is one of Bangladesh's most decorated batsmen of all time. He has so far played 70 Tests, 243 ODIs and 78 T20Is for Bangladesh, scoring over 15000 runs in international cricket.
