Tajinderpal Singh Toor's Stellar Performance
In Sangrur, Punjab, on May 9, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time gold medalist at the Asian Games in men's shot put, showcased an impressive performance during the fifth leg of the Indian Athletics Series. He achieved a remarkable throw of 19.97 meters, solidifying his dominance in the event, according to a statement from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
The 31-year-old athlete from Punjab is preparing for a significant domestic competition scheduled later this month in Ranchi.
“My primary objective this season is to excel in major international competitions,” stated Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who clinched gold medals in both the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games.
Earlier in April, Toor recorded his season's best throw of 21.03 meters at the Delhi leg of the Indian Athletics Series.
Annu Rani and Other Highlights
The Sangrur event also provided a platform for Annu Rani, a two-time Olympian and Asian Games champion in women's javelin throw, to assess her readiness for the upcoming season. The 33-year-old secured third place with a throw of 55.78 meters.
In the women's javelin throw competition, Haryana's Shilpa Rani took first place with a throw of 57.65 meters, while Rashmi K from Andhra Pradesh finished second with 56.15 meters.
Harjit Singh from the Air Force and Fatema Begam from Tripura were recognized as the fastest male and female runners of the meet, respectively, with Fatema also winning the women's 200m event.
Kiran Pahal from Haryana won the women's 400m race comfortably, clocking in at 54.07 seconds.
