A Special Meeting Ahead of Diwali

On November 6, former T20I captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, expressed his heartfelt sentiments following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described the encounter as a "blessed and heartwarming moment" and conveyed Diwali wishes to all.

The meeting took place just before the Diwali festivities, with PM Modi also sharing a glimpse of his time with Suryakumar and his family.

In a post shared on X, Suryakumar conveyed his appreciation for the memorable interaction, highlighting it as a reflection of India's rich culture, traditions, and shared values.

He wrote, "Truly a blessed and heartwarming moment with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. A beautiful reminder of our rich culture, traditions, and the values that bring us together. Grateful for this special moment. Wishing everyone a very Happy and prosperous Diwali!"

PM Modi's Reflections on Diwali

During their meeting, PM Modi enjoyed moments with Suryakumar's young children. He remarked on the spiritual significance of this year's Diwali, noting that the arrival of Lord Ram and the Saryu River has made the celebrations even more sacred.

"In the atmosphere of Diwali, the arrival of Ram and Saryu has taken place. This has made the environment of Diwali even more sacred and divine," PM Modi stated.

Celebrating Cricket Achievements

Suryakumar Yadav proudly wore his gold medal from India's victory at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup during the meeting, while PM Modi held the medal, marking a significant celebration of the team's historic win.

Throughout his career, Suryakumar has reached several milestones, including being named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year in both 2022 and 2023.

He achieved the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings in October 2022, reaching a career-high rating of 910 points in January 2023, one of the highest ever in this format.

His contributions were vital in leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and subsequently defending the title in 2026, making India the first team to do so.

Under his captaincy, India also secured the T20 Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. However, following the 2026 World Cup win, Suryakumar was omitted from the T20I squad for the upcoming UK tour, which included matches against Ireland and England.

Shreyas Iyer was appointed as the new T20I captain after demonstrating strong leadership with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL. Despite his successful captaincy record, Suryakumar's recent decline in batting form was reportedly a key reason for his exclusion from the squad.
