Suryakumar Yadav Dismisses Santner's Predictions

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 7: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has downplayed New Zealand's Mitchell Santner's remarks about quieting the home crowd before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final, labeling them as predictable.

Earlier on Saturday, Santner expressed his team's intention to dampen the atmosphere at the packed Narendra Modi Stadium during the final match on Sunday.

Yadav remarked that such comments have become clichés, stating, “Everyone is repeating the same line. They should try to say something different.”

This sentiment reflects a common trend in pre-match banter, reminiscent of Pat Cummins' comments before the 2023 ODI World Cup final, which Australia ultimately won.

As India seeks to defend its title, New Zealand is eager to end its ICC title drought in the upcoming clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Mitchell Santner told reporters, “The aim is to silence the crowd. T20 cricket has many variables, and it can be unpredictable. If we approach the game with our strategy, we can challenge a strong team. There’s significant pressure on India to win this World Cup at home.”

When questioned about Santner's comments, Suryakumar Yadav responded with a smile, indicating that such statements from rival teams have become routine before major matches.

Speaking to the media on the eve of India's title defense against New Zealand, Yadav said, “Everyone is saying the same thing. Come up with something new.”

Historically, New Zealand may have the upper hand in their encounters, but India is currently in good form. The Black Caps have previously defeated India in T20 World Cup matches in 2007, 2016, and 2021. However, India recently showcased dominance in their T20I series, winning comfortably 4-1.
