Mumbai's Squad Announcement for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 21: Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India's T20I team, has been included in the 17-member squad representing Mumbai for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, set to commence on November 26.
All-rounder Shardul Thakur will captain the team, which features prominent players such as Shivam Dube, Sarfaraz Khan, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ayush Mhatre, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.
Yadav's selection comes just before India's T20I series against South Africa, starting December 9. Despite an impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Mumbai Indians, where he scored 717 runs at a strike rate of 167.91, he has struggled in international matches, accumulating only 184 runs in 15 innings in 2025, averaging 15.33 with a strike rate of 127.77.
India is set to host ten T20Is at home, with five matches each against South Africa and New Zealand, leading up to the T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Sri Lanka in February-March 2026. Like Yadav, Dube is also looking for match practice, having participated in just six of the eleven T20Is during the Asia Cup and the series against Australia, where he scored 76 runs off 60 balls.
Mumbai enters the tournament as the defending champions, having triumphed over Madhya Pradesh in the final of the 2024-25 season. Their campaign this year will kick off against Railways in Lucknow.
Mumbai's squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 includes: Shardul Thakur (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wicketkeeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Sairaj Patil, Musheer Khan, Suryansh Shedge, Atharva Ankolekar, Tanush Kotian, Shams Mulani, Tushar Deshpande, Irfan Umair, and Hardik Tamore (wicketkeeper).
