Suryakumar Yadav's Anticipation for the Final

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 7: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav shared his excitement about leading the team in the T20 World Cup final at home against New Zealand, describing it as a unique experience.

He expressed a mix of excitement and nerves but emphasized the importance of simplicity, reflecting on India's remarkable journey in the tournament and his gratitude for the support received.

As India aims to defend its title, New Zealand seeks to end its ICC title drought in the final scheduled for Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Suryakumar addressed the media on the eve of this crucial match.

“It’s a truly special moment for me to lead such an incredible team into a final, especially on home ground. I feel a rush of excitement, and yes, there are some nerves. But I believe there’s no pressure, just excitement. The entire team, including the support staff, shares this sentiment,” he stated.

“I’m confident that the whole of India is looking forward to the match. Our focus is on keeping things straightforward and not overcomplicating our approach. We’ve been working hard and want to maintain our momentum. This journey has been long, and leading India in such a significant event makes me very happy, not just for myself but for my family and everyone involved,” he added.

Suryakumar also mentioned that dew could influence the game, but he believes the team is well-prepared to adapt. Drawing from his experiences in both franchise and international cricket, he feels confident in the team's ability to handle the conditions.

“Dew can indeed be a significant factor, but we must be ready to respond to it. In challenging situations, we need to stay focused. Batting under dew can be advantageous, but bowlers face different challenges. Our extensive experience in various conditions has prepared us well,” he explained.

As the final approaches, India is on the verge of achieving several milestones: defending a T20 World Cup title, becoming the first host nation to win the T20 World Cup, and securing a third championship. New Zealand, on the other hand, faces the challenge of containing India's formidable batting lineup and dealing with Jasprit Bumrah's precise bowling.

Both teams reached the final through contrasting paths, showcasing strong performances in the semi-finals. New Zealand, after a rocky start in the group stage, dominated in the semi-final, defeating South Africa decisively with a record-breaking 33-ball century from Finn Allen.

India, having performed flawlessly in the group stage aside from a single loss to South Africa, triumphed in a thrilling semi-final against England, scoring 253 runs and narrowly winning by seven runs.

Historically, New Zealand has had the upper hand in T20 World Cup encounters, winning previous matches in 2007, 2016, and 2021. However, India recently showcased their strength with a convincing 4-1 series victory in T20Is.
