Suryakumar Yadav Sets Ambitious Goals for 2028

New Delhi, March 15: The captain of India's men's T20I team, Suryakumar Yadav, has shared his aspirations to secure victory in the 2028 T20 World Cup, aiming for a remarkable third consecutive title, while also striving for a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

During the BCCI Naman Awards, Yadav, who led India to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup, emphasized the team's goal of achieving a third straight T20 World Cup win and capturing Olympic gold, highlighting the significance of cricket's inclusion in the Olympic Games as a 'fantastic opportunity.'

"It's truly exciting that such a major event is on the horizon, and cricket is being welcomed into it. There are two significant competitions in 2028—the T20 World Cup and the Olympics. If we've managed to win two in a row, why not aim for a third in T20Is and definitely pursue the Olympic gold?" Yadav stated in a video shared by the BCCI on social media.

When asked about India's prowess in white-ball cricket, Yadav credited the team's success to their victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which he believes provided the squad with a 'taste' of winning an ICC trophy.

He noted that subsequent triumphs, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, have built on that momentum, with India now focused on securing as many ICC titles as possible.

"We just needed that initial spark, which we achieved in 2024, followed by the 2025 Champions Trophy and the women's team winning the ODI World Cup in 2025, and then the men's T20 World Cup in 2026. That first step was crucial; it gave everyone insight into what it takes to win an ICC trophy. Now, there's no turning back. With this incredible journey underway, let's aim to gather as many trophies as we can," Yadav concluded.
