Suryakumar Yadav's Determination to Return

Despite being stripped of his captaincy and dropped from the Indian cricket team, Suryakumar Yadav remains resolute in his ambition to return to the national squad. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the 35-year-old has been putting in significant effort to regain his spot. His recent performance in the T20 Mumbai League 2026 showcased his talent, where he played a remarkable innings of 72 runs off just 36 balls during a match against Triumph Knights North East Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium. His unbeaten knock included 13 fours and a six, leading his team to victory while chasing a target of 153 with four overs remaining. This win marked a turnaround for the Suryakumar-led Knights, who had previously faced three consecutive losses.

Following his exclusion from the squad for the Ireland and England tour, Suryakumar has shown signs of returning to form. Just hours after the announcement, he scored 48 runs off 24 balls against the SoBO Mumbai Falcons. However, prior to this, he had a challenging start to the season, managing only 19 runs in his first match and 4 in the second.

Suryakumar's Recent Struggles

Although Suryakumar boasts an impressive record, his performance has dipped since he took over as captain of the national team in July 2024. In the 45 matches following his first series against Sri Lanka, he accumulated only 932 runs at an average of 25.88. His 2026 season with the Mumbai Indians was particularly disappointing, as he scored just 270 runs in 13 matches, which included two half-centuries.
