Sunil Narine Sets New Record for KKR
New Delhi [India] - On May 25, Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) seasoned spinner Sunil Narine made history by becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker for a single team in men's T20 cricket. This remarkable achievement occurred during KKR's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Delhi, where he secured two vital wickets.
With this performance, Narine has now accumulated 210 wickets across 198 matches for KKR, surpassing the previous record of 208 wickets held by England's Samit Patel for Nottinghamshire.
The current top five wicket-takers in this category are Narine (210 for KKR), Patel (208 for Nottinghamshire), Chris Wood (199 for Hampshire), Lasith Malinga (195 for Mumbai Indians), and David Payne (193 for Gloucestershire).
Since joining KKR in 2012, Narine has been a pivotal player for the franchise, renowned for his enigmatic spin, impressive economy rate, and clutch performances. This latest milestone further solidifies his status as one of the premier bowlers in T20 cricket.
In the same match, SRH's Heinrich Klaasen scored a century and Travis Head contributed a fifty, leading SRH to a formidable total of 278/3 in 20 overs against KKR at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This score marks the third-highest in IPL history, with Klaasen achieving the fastest century of the current IPL season in just 37 balls.
Narine's wickets included Abhishek Sharma (32 off 16) and Travis Head (76 off 40), finishing with bowling figures of 2/42 in his four overs. KKR now faces a daunting target of 279 runs to secure victory.
