Suchika Tariyal Advances in MMA at Asian Games

Nagoya, Japan - On September 20, Suchika Tariyal clinched India's inaugural medal at the Asian Games by reaching the semifinals in the women's traditional 60kg MMA (mixed martial arts) event. She achieved this by defeating Altanchimeg Baigalmaa.

In the second round, Baigalmaa came out with an aggressive strategy, aiming to turn the match in her favor. However, Suchika's solid defense withstood the pressure.

As Baigalmaa continued her offensive, Suchika executed a pivotal reversal, bringing her opponent to the ground. She maintained her dominance until the round concluded, securing her victory.

This win not only advanced Suchika to the semifinals but also confirmed India's first medal at the ongoing Games.

In another highlight, the Indian women's table tennis team kicked off their Asian Games journey with a convincing 3-0 victory against Indonesia in their Group F match.

Sreeja Akula set the tone with a 3-1 win over N. Maharani in the first match. Diya Chitale followed up with a 3-0 triumph against A. Nebuchadnezzar, and Yashaswini Ghorpade completed the sweep by defeating C. Rasmi 3-0.

India's Group F campaign commenced successfully.

Earlier, India's Teqball campaign at the Asian Games concluded without a medal, as the mixed doubles team lost 0-2 to Vietnam in the bronze medal match.

The Vietnamese duo won with scores of 12-9 and 12-6, marking the end of India's three medal chances in Teqball during its debut at the Asian Games.
