Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 24: Indian mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor Suchika Tariyal, who made history by winning a bronze medal at the Asian Games, has urged young people to engage in sports while sharing her personal journey.

Suchika achieved a significant milestone by securing India's inaugural MMA medal at the Asian Games, finishing third in the women's traditional 60kg category after a semifinal loss to Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon.

Upon her return to Mumbai airport, Suchika expressed her joy, stating, "This journey has been incredible. My aim was to earn a medal for my country, and I succeeded. It feels fantastic to see all of you here welcoming me. Everything went smoothly."

She also conveyed an encouraging message to the youth, highlighting the government's efforts in promoting sports. "The government is doing an excellent job in supporting sports. I urge as many young individuals as possible to pursue a sport; they too can win medals for our nation and bring pride to India," she remarked.

Reflecting on her journey, Suchika acknowledged the financial hurdles she faced and her struggles with academics, but emphasized the unwavering support from her family and later her husband. Winning this medal is a way for her to repay their faith in her.

"My family has always been my backbone. Academically, I struggled, so they believed I could excel in sports. Their support fueled my passion. Despite facing financial difficulties, my family and husband never let me feel the weight of those challenges. They had faith in me, and I am proud to have fulfilled that trust. That means the world to me," she concluded.

Suchika's bronze medal is a significant achievement for Indian MMA, which made its debut at the Asian Games in 2026.
