In a significant meeting aimed at strengthening the relationship between The Cricket Association of Bengal and the Army, CAB President Sourav Ganguly and Treasurer Sanjay Das engaged with Major General Rajesh Arun Moghe. They discussed the redevelopment of Eden Gardens and preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will feature 20 teams and is set to begin on February 7, 2026. Former captain Rohit Sharma has been named the tournament ambassador, adding to the excitement surrounding this prestigious event.

CAB and Army Forge Stronger Connections

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], December 4: In a bid to enhance the longstanding relationship between The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the Army, CAB President Sourav Ganguly, along with Treasurer Sanjay Das, met with Major General Rajesh Arun Moghe, VSM, GOC of the Headquarters – Bengal Sub Area, on Thursday.


Joining them were Colonel Tarun Tyagi, Colonel Land from the Headquarters Bengal Sub Area; Lt. Colonel Prashant Sinha, SO Land, and Chinmay Nayak, CEO of CAB. During this meeting, Ganguly presented Major General Moghe with a replica of the 'Freedom Trophy'.


This initial meeting at the GOC's office marked Ganguly's first official engagement since assuming the CAB presidency. He engaged in extensive discussions with Army officials regarding the redevelopment of the historic Eden Gardens and strategies for hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 more effectively, alongside exploring ways to strengthen the collaboration between the Association and the Army.


The T20 World Cup is set to kick off on February 7, 2026, featuring a 20-team tournament that will run until March 8. On the opening day, six teams, including the defending champions India, will compete, as stated on the International Cricket Council's (ICC) official website.


The Men in Blue will take on the USA in Mumbai, aiming to be the first team to successfully defend their Men’s T20 World Cup title.


India and Sri Lanka will co-host this extensive tournament, which spans 29 days and utilizes eight venues: five in India and three in Sri Lanka. The venues include the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo, and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.


Additionally, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who led India to victory in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, has been appointed as the tournament ambassador for the 2026 edition.
