Sri Lanka's Women's Cricket Team for Asian Games

Colombo, Sri Lanka - On September 16, Sri Lanka announced its 15-member squad for the women's cricket event at the 2026 Asian Games, following their second-place finish in the Women's Asia Cup, where they were defeated by India in the final.

Chamari Athapaththu will captain the team, which includes several players from the recent Asia Cup squad, albeit with a few modifications, as reported by the ICC.

Notably absent from the lineup is Vishmi Gunarathne, who made significant contributions during both the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and the Women’s Asia Cup. Additionally, Nilakshika Silva, who played a crucial role in those tournaments, has also been omitted.

Chetana Vimukthi, who rejoined the Sri Lankan team for the Asia Cup, is another player not included in the Asian Games roster.

The squad showcases emerging talent, with 17-year-old Chamudi Praboda earning her spot after a commendable performance in the Asia Cup. Nineteen-year-old Rashmika Sewwandi has also been selected, having last played a T20I against Pakistan in August.

Experienced players such as Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, Sugandika Kumari, and Anushka Sanjeewani are also part of the team.

Sri Lanka will kick off their Asian Games journey against Malaysia on September 18.
