Sri Lanka Strengthens Squad with New Additions for Crucial Test Against India
Sri Lanka's Squad Update Ahead of Second Test
Colombo [Sri Lanka], August 21: In a bid to recover from their recent 165-run defeat in the first Test, Sri Lanka has included Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige in their squad for the upcoming second Test against India, set to commence on August 23, as reported by the ICC.
These two players have been called up as replacements for this critical match. Their selection follows strong performances in recent games, with Arachchige standing out as the top run-scorer for his team in the series against India A, while Mishara has shown consistent form in domestic competitions.
Sri Lanka is currently facing a significant injury crisis, as confirmed by head coach Gary Kirsten. Key players Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Pathum Nissanka will not participate in the second Test, raising concerns about the team's batting strength.
Mendis is recovering from a severe hamstring injury, Nissanka is still healing from wrist surgery, and Chandimal has been ruled out due to a concussion sustained during the fourth day of the first Test, which requires a mandatory seven-day recovery period.
With these three first-choice batsmen unavailable, both Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige may find themselves in the playing eleven as Sri Lanka aims to secure a vital win to level the two-match series.
In the first Test, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 165 runs, with notable contributions from Manav Suthar, who achieved a remarkable 10-wicket haul, and Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 167 runs in the first innings.
The Sri Lanka squad for the second Test includes: Dhananjaya de Silva (captain), Lahiru Udara, Kamil Mishara, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Kamindu Mendis, Sahan Arachchige, Sonal Dinusha, Niroshan Dickwella, Keshara Nuwantha, Prabath Jayasuriya, Milan Ratnayake, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando, and Vishwa Fernando.
