On August 18, the Delhi Premier League (DPL) showcased an impressive performance by fast bowler Sumit Kumar Beniwal, whose remarkable five-wicket haul led South Delhi Superstarz to a convincing 46-run victory against Purani Dilli 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Facing a target of 185 runs, Purani Dilli 6 struggled early on, losing wickets rapidly as Beniwal delivered two quick strikes during the powerplay. His exceptional pace and precision left the batting side reeling, and with contributions from Abhishek Khandelwal and Aman Bharti, Purani Dilli 6 found themselves in dire straits at 28/6 within just eight overs, according to a DPL release.
Beniwal concluded his outstanding spell with figures of 5 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs, while Khandelwal's 4 wickets for 31 runs ensured that Purani Dilli 6 had no chance of recovery.
Ekansh Dobal emerged as the lone fighter for Purani Dilli 6, showcasing resilience under pressure. He formed a 46-run partnership with Lalit Yadav (22 runs off 28 balls) to stabilize the innings before Yadav was dismissed by Beniwal. Dobal managed to score a commendable half-century, but his efforts were in vain as Purani Dilli 6 was bowled out for 138 runs.
Earlier in the match, South Delhi Superstarz batted first, posting a total of 184 runs. Their opening pair, Anmol Sharma and Ankur Kaushik, provided a solid foundation with a partnership of 70 runs for the first wicket. Kaushik scored 21 runs off 17 balls, while Sharma anchored the innings with a fluent half-century, maintaining stability as wickets fell around him.
Although the middle order faced challenges, a crucial late innings contribution from Vision Panchal helped push the total beyond 180 runs.
For Purani Dilli 6, Lalit Yadav (3 wickets for 24 runs) and Rajneesh Dadar (3 wickets for 30 runs) were the standout bowlers, consistently taking wickets to prevent Superstarz from exceeding 200 runs.
