South Africa's U19 Squad Announced for Upcoming World Cup
Cape Town, South Africa - December 5: The South African cricket team has revealed its 15-member lineup for the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup, as reported on the ICC's official site. This prestigious tournament is set to occur in Namibia and Zimbabwe from January 15 to February 6, 2026.
After a stellar performance in recent youth tournaments, Muhammad Bulbulia has been appointed as the captain for this 16th edition of the event.
Here is the South Africa U19 Squad:
Muhammad Bulbulia (C), JJ Basson, Daniel Bosman, Corne Botha, Paul James, Enathi Khitshini Tembalethu, Michael Kruiskamp, Adnaan Lagadien, Bayanda Majola, Armaan Manack, Bandile Mbatha, Lethabo Phahlamohlaka, Jason Rowles, Ntandoyenkosi Soni, Jorich van Schalkwyk.
In the group stage, South Africa will compete in Group D against the West Indies, Afghanistan, and Tanzania.
Prior to the World Cup, the Proteas are scheduled to play three Youth ODIs against India at Willowmoore Park in Benoni from January 5-7, 2026.
Head coach Malibongwe Maketa expressed his admiration for the team's development.
“What stands out to me is the progress these players have made. From meeting them as 16-year-olds to witnessing their growth now, it’s evident we’re nurturing not just cricketers, but also responsible young men for our nation,” he stated.
“Their grasp of the intensity needed at the international level has been remarkable. They’ve returned to training with a renewed focus and determination, which is essential for competing at a World Cup.”
Maketa also highlighted the strong values exhibited by the young players.
“I have great confidence in this group. Their development, along with the culture we’ve fostered based on hard work, resilience, and teamwork, gives me genuine optimism,” he added.
“They’ve embraced these values with enthusiasm and quiet confidence, which excites me about our potential achievements.”
The Proteas will kick off their campaign against Afghanistan at the HP Oval in Windhoek on January 16.
