South Africa Announces T20 World Cup Team

Cape Town, South Africa - On January 2, the South African cricket team announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup, with Aiden Markram appointed as the captain.


The lineup includes Quinton de Kock, who has recently come out of international retirement, and Anrich Nortje, who is back from injury, as reported by the ICC.


The batting order looks formidable, featuring Markram, De Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Dewald Brevis, and David Miller. The pace attack is reinforced by Kagiso Rabada, Kwena Maphaka, Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, and Corbin Bosch.


Keshav Maharaj will lead the spin department, supported by George Linde, while Markram and Donovan Ferreira can also contribute with spin.


Selection convener Patrick Moroney stated, “We have made some significant decisions, but we believe this squad is the strongest and has a great chance of performing well in India and Sri Lanka. We have put together a world-class team with a mix of experienced players and promising T20 talents.”


South Africa is placed in Group D alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Canada, and the UAE.


Historically, the Proteas have yet to clinch the men's T20 World Cup title, although they reached the final in the last tournament, narrowly losing to India.
