South Africa Reveals Playing XI for First Test Against Australia
South Africa's Squad Announcement for the Test Series
Durban [South Africa], October 8: The reigning ICC World Test Championship champions, South Africa, have unveiled their lineup for the initial Test match of the series against Australia, set to take place in Durban this Thursday.
The series will kick off in Durban, followed by the second Test in Gqeberha, and will wrap up in Cape Town. Each of the three matches holds importance in the World Test Championship cycle, prompting both teams to aim for a strong start and gain momentum as the series progresses.
Notably, pace bowler Kagiso Rabada has been omitted from the squad as he continues to recover and regain fitness after an injury. In contrast, Anrich Nortje is making his return to Test cricket for the first time since his last match against the West Indies in 2023.
The Proteas have assembled a well-rounded team for the opening Test, blending seasoned players with rising stars. Temba Bavuma will captain the side, supported by Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, David Bedingham, and Tristan Stubbs in the batting lineup.
All-rounders Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen contribute to the team's balance, while Kyle Verreynne will take on the wicketkeeping responsibilities. The bowling unit includes spin bowlers Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer, complemented by the pace of Anrich Nortje and Marco Jansen.
It is worth mentioning that Rabada has not participated in any matches since his stint with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the end of May this year.
