South Africa Takes Commanding Lead

On the third day of the ongoing second Test match in Guwahati, South Africa dismissed India for a mere 201 runs, establishing a significant lead of 288 runs. Marco Jansen, who excelled in the first innings, took 6 wickets for just 48 runs, causing turmoil in the Indian batting lineup. After bowling India out for a low score, South Africa resumed batting and ended the day's play at 26 runs without loss in just eight overs. Openers Aiden Markram (12*) and Ryan Rickelton (13*) remained unbeaten, with South Africa ahead by 314 runs.

India Struggles After Lunch

India began the post-lunch session at 174/7, with Washington Sundar (33*) and Kuldeep Yadav (14*) at the crease, trailing by 315 runs. The duo played cautiously while also hitting a few boundaries. However, South African spinner Simon Harmer claimed his third wicket of the day by dismissing Washington, dousing India's hopes of reducing the deficit further. Washington, who scored 48 runs off 92 balls, was caught by Markram at first slip off a delivery outside off-stump, leaving India at 194/8.

Jansen's Bowling Puts India on the Back Foot

With Jasprit Bumrah joining Kuldeep at the crease, Jansen, who had already taken four wickets, continued to trouble the Indian tailenders. The South African bowlers took the second new ball in the 81st over, and soon after, Kuldeep was dismissed. In the 82nd over, Jansen claimed his sixth wicket, leaving India at 194/9. Kuldeep managed to score 19 runs off 134 balls before he was caught by Markram at second slip off a short-length delivery, marking Jansen's fifth wicket.

India's Batting Collapse Continues

With Mohammad Siraj and Bumrah at the crease, India added just seven more runs before Jansen took Bumrah's wicket, bringing his tally to six. Earlier, India started the second session at 102/4, with captain Rishabh Pant (6*) and Ravindra Jadeja (0*) still at the crease. The host team's batting approach remained questionable, as Pant attempted a powerful shot that ended up in the hands of South African wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

India's Woes Persist

Pant could only add seven runs to the score, and India lost half their team for just 109 runs in 37.2 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy also failed to last long, dismissed for 10 runs off 18 balls after a spectacular catch by Markram. Jansen continued to trouble India with his height and bounce, making it difficult for Jadeja as well. With Jadeja's dismissal, India's score stood at 122/7 in 43.3 overs. However, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav extended India's fight, pushing the score past 150 in the 56.3 over, with Sundar hitting some aggressive shots and Kuldeep contributing valuable runs.
