Celebrations at the Home of Cricket

London [UK] June 16: Following their remarkable triumph in the ICC World Test Championship against Australia, South Africa's cricket team returned to Lord's for a celebratory gathering, as reported by the ICC.

Just two days after clinching a historic five-wicket win over Australia in the World Test Championship Final, the entire squad of 15 players visited the iconic venue, proudly displaying the legendary Test mace.

The Proteas players and their support staff were in high spirits, taking a moment to relish their victory at Lord's before heading back to South Africa.

All-rounder Wiaan Mulder shared his thoughts on the celebrations, stating, “These past few days have been extraordinary. The celebrations have been unlike any I've experienced before, and there’s no better place to celebrate than at the Home of Cricket,” as quoted by the ICC.

Captain Temba Bavuma ended a 27-year wait for South Africa's second ICC trophy, following their ICC Knockout title in 1998. His crucial half-century and a partnership with centurion Aiden Markram were pivotal in securing their first world title in any format.

Meanwhile, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins saw his impressive run come to an end, which included retaining the Ashes against England and winning both the WTC mace and the 50-over World Cup against India.

For Bavuma, the next chance to replicate this success will be at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which South Africa will co-host with Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027.

Before that, South Africa will participate in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, aiming to improve upon their 2024 performance, where they finished as runners-up to India under the leadership of Aiden Markram.
