Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team and current President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), has lodged a formal complaint with the Kolkata Police. He alleges that a Facebook page named 'Sourav Ganguly Fans' has been disseminating content aimed at tarnishing his image. The complaint was filed at the Thakurpukur Police Station and also mentions the media outlet Sportzwiki. Ganguly asserts that the page has consistently shared misleading information designed to misrepresent him and damage his reputation.

Details of Ganguly's Allegations

In his complaint, Ganguly stated, "As a public figure, I recognize that criticism and differing opinions are part of my role; however, the dissemination of misleading and defamatory content intended to harm my reputation is intolerable and warrants legal intervention." He highlighted the distinction between legitimate criticism and the deliberate spread of harmful content. Ganguly urged law enforcement to investigate and identify those responsible for the page, requesting that appropriate legal measures be taken against them. "I kindly ask you to register my complaint against the individuals or group managing this page and to act according to the relevant laws," he added. The matter is currently under investigation, with several pages bearing Ganguly's name still active on Facebook and other platforms. In India, fan pages have often stirred controversy within the sports community. While some accounts are organically created, others are managed by PR agencies of cricket players to shape narratives around them. Both types can pose risks in the digital landscape due to the lack of regulatory oversight.
