Smriti Mandhana Shatters Records with Stunning Century Against Hong Kong

Dubai [UAE], September 3: After achieving several remarkable milestones, Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana expressed her surprise at the records she set during her century against Hong Kong.

She commended the disciplined bowling from Hong Kong during the powerplay, noting their impressive energy. Mandhana mentioned that the pitch initially had some low bounce but became more favorable for batting as she got comfortable, calling the match a memorable event for Hong Kong as well.

In a stunning display of skill, Mandhana scored 124 runs off just 64 deliveries, leading India Women to a total of 193/5 in their Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Reflecting on her innings, Mandhana said, "I wasn’t aware of all these records. Facing slower bowlers is challenging for me, but I must give credit to them for their disciplined bowling during the powerplay. Their energy was commendable, and it’s something we can all learn from. I simply love batting and am thrilled to have made a contribution."

She added, "The ball did keep a bit low during the powerplay, but once I got my eye in, it became easier to judge the length and play my shots. I want to keep praising them because this is our first encounter, and it’s a significant moment for them too."

With this performance, Mandhana has now become the leading century-maker in women's international cricket, achieving her 18th century and surpassing the previous record of 17 held by former Australia captain Meg Lanning.

Additionally, she has become the top run-scorer in women's international cricket, amassing 10,880 runs, which exceeds the tally of 10,868 set by former India captain Mithali Raj.

Mandhana also made history as the first Indian woman to score two T20I centuries, surpassing the record previously held by India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
