Mandhana Analyzes India's Loss to England

Following India's six-wicket loss to England in the third T20I, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana attributed the defeat to the team's inability to bowl enough dot balls. She expressed a desire to avoid similar mistakes in the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup.

England's victory not only secured a 2-1 series win but also disrupted India's preparations for the ICC tournament.

Mandhana noted, "We began strongly with the ball, reducing England to 35 for 3. However, I can't overlook the impressive partnership they formed. They executed some excellent cricketing shots," during her comments at the post-match press briefing.

Despite an early setback, England bounced back with a remarkable 137-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Alice Capsey (82) and Heather Knight (70 not out), successfully chasing down the target of 181 runs.

"Looking back, we could have applied more pressure with a few dot balls, but we fell short. We will analyze this match to improve and avoid repeating these errors in the upcoming World Cup," she added.

Even in defeat, Mandhana highlighted some positives from the series, particularly the return to form of captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Harmanpreet scored a crucial 56 runs off 40 balls, helping India reach 180 for five.

"She played exceptionally well. When Harman is at her peak, it's a joy to watch. Her innings was vital under pressure, especially when we needed to surpass 180 runs," Mandhana remarked.

"I believe everyone is in good form, which bodes well for the World Cup. Players like Jemi and Harman are looking impressive, and I hope to witness it from the non-striker's end," she continued.

India's World Cup journey will commence against their long-standing rivals, Pakistan, in Birmingham on June 14.

However, Mandhana downplayed the excitement surrounding the India-Pakistan match, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the entire World Cup. "We faced Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (2022) and had a full house. It's not just about India-Pakistan; we need to elevate the significance of the T20 World Cup as a whole. We don't need to hype just one match," she stated.

"The anticipation is already high, and I am confident that many supporters will come out for us. We hope to deliver a great performance for them," Mandhana concluded.
