Smriti Mandhana Achieves Historic Milestone in Women's T20 World Cup
Historic Achievement by Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana made history during India's second match against the Netherlands in the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup, held at Headingley Cricket Stadium in Leeds on June 17. The Indian vice-captain's outstanding performance led her team to a commanding 95-run victory, earning her the Player of the Match (POTM) title. Mandhana scored 74 runs off just 47 balls, marking her second consecutive half-century in the tournament, which included 11 fours and a six. She formed a formidable opening partnership of 115 runs with Shafali Verma, who contributed 66 runs from 38 balls.
Smriti Mandhana's Groundbreaking Record
During her innings, Mandhana reached a remarkable milestone by becoming the first cricketer, male or female, to hit 600 boundaries in T20I cricket at the international level. Previously, only New Zealand's Suzie Bates had come close to this achievement. Among male cricketers, Babar Azam holds the record for the most boundaries. Rohit Sharma leads the Indian players with 383 fours in men's T20Is.
Top Players with Most Boundaries in T20I
| Player | Fours Scored In T20Is |
| Smriti Mandhana | 604 |
| Suzie Bates | 521 |
| Chamari Atapaththu | 493 |
| Babar Azam | 477 |
| Beth Mooney | 459 |
| Paul Stirling | 449 |
In addition to her boundary record, Mandhana is currently the second-highest run-scorer in women's T20I cricket, with 4475 runs. Only Suzie Bates, with 4720 runs, is ahead of her. As Bates is expected to retire after this World Cup, it is likely that Mandhana will soon claim the top spot. Among male players, Babar Azam is just ahead of her with 4596 runs, but with his recent exclusion from the national T20I team, Mandhana is poised to surpass him shortly.
