Sinalo Jafta to Miss Zimbabwe Tour Due to Injury; Jae-Leigh Filander Steps In

Sinalo Jafta's Injury Forces Change in South Africa's Squad

Wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta will not participate in South Africa's upcoming tour of Zimbabwe because of a hamstring strain.

The series, consisting of five T20I matches, will take place entirely in Bulawayo, with the opening match set for September 11. The subsequent matches are scheduled for September 13, 15, 17, and 19.

In her absence, uncapped wicketkeeper Jae-Leigh Filander has been named as her replacement, while Karabo Meso is anticipated to step in as the primary wicketkeeper.

Filander is among four players in the squad who have yet to earn caps. She joins Caitlin Wyngaard, who showcased her talent during the recent tour of Bangladesh with the SA Emerging Women, former South Africa U19 Women standout Nthabiseng Nini, and off-spinner Luyanda Nzuza, who also excelled for the Emerging team.

The Proteas Women announced on X, "Sinalo Jafta has been ruled out of the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe due to a hamstring strain sustained during pre-tour testing."

The post continued, "Jae-Leigh Filander, a starlet from SA U19 Women and Western Province, has received her first senior international call-up and will join the Proteas Women squad in Tshwane before their departure for Bulawayo on Monday, September 7."
