Shubman Gill Returns as Vice-Captain for T20 Series Against South Africa
Shubman Gill's Comeback as Vice-Captain
Shubman Gill is set to join the T20 International series against South Africa as the vice-captain after making a full recovery from a neck injury. This injury had sidelined him from the ongoing ODI series, as confirmed by a source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.
The injury occurred during the first Test match against South Africa in Kolkata, which led to his absence from the second Test in Guwahati and the subsequent ODI matches.
According to the BCCI source, "Gill has fully recovered and will return as vice-captain."
The announcement regarding the squad for the five-match T20 series, which kicks off on December 9 in Cuttack, is expected later today. Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the T20I team.
Additionally, the source dismissed rumors about a planned meeting involving senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, amid rising concerns about tensions within the dressing room.
"No meeting will occur during the series. We will address any issues once the series concludes," the source clarified.
India faced a disappointing outcome in the Test series, losing 0-2.
