Shubman Gill Cleared to Play as India Aims for Series Sweep Against Afghanistan
Shubman Gill's Fitness Update
During the second ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow, Shubman Gill did not take the field during the opposition's chase. The Indian captain had faced challenges while scoring 154 runs in the intense heat. His absence raised concerns among fans regarding his participation in the third ODI. However, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate provided reassuring news, confirming Gill's fitness ahead of the final match of the series. He stated, "Shubman... it was just the heat the other day, and he didn't come onto the field. As far as I know, he was absolutely fine up there. He was just cramping his calves a little bit. Ishaan on the shoulder, and now he's fine," during a press conference.
Ryan also commended Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is stepping up as India's primary all-rounder in the absence of Hardik Pandya. Although Nitish played in the first match, he missed the second due to a sore left thigh. Ryan remarked, "For the last 18 months, Nitish has shown how crucial he can be to this team, especially in this format. I believe his body is getting stronger, and he is the natural successor or backup to Hardik."
