Shubman Gill Attributes Cricket Success to Father's Support and New T20 League Launch
Shubman Gill's Tribute to His Father
Shubman Gill, the captain of India's Test and ODI cricket teams, has expressed his gratitude towards his father, Lakhwinder Singh, for his pivotal role in his cricketing journey. "My achievements are a direct result of my father's dedication and his profound passion for the game. It was his dream to see me succeed as a cricketer," Gill remarked.
He further shared, "We have established a no-cost training center in our village, where my father actively seeks out budding talent. He often shows me clips of young players he believes have potential. This initiative is not just about my cricketing career; it reflects his love for the sport as a whole. The facility serves children from nearby villages who lack access to proper training facilities."
A Father's Superstitions
Cricket enthusiasts frequently notice Lakhwinder at Gill's matches, dressed in a simple white kurta-pajama. Gill explained, "It's his superstition. Whenever he dons this attire, I tend to score runs or the Indian team emerges victorious. He insists on wearing it for every match, whether it's in India or overseas." He added, "My father is quite particular about his lucky outfit during my games, ensuring he adheres to this tradition every time."
Launch of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League
Gill recently attended the unveiling of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 league logo at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA International Cricket Stadium, set to commence on August 30. He stated, "The Sher-E-Punjab T20 League will provide an excellent platform for emerging cricketers to display their skills and aspire to represent Punjab and India. Punjab has a rich history of producing exceptional cricketers, and I am confident this league will uncover many more talents. I commend the Punjab Cricket Association for this remarkable initiative and wish the league immense success." Gill is also set to participate in the tournament, which will take place at the Mullanpur facility.
