Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer Eye Milestones in Upcoming ODI Against Afghanistan
Exciting ODI Series Begins in Dharamsala
The picturesque city of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh is set to host the first ODI of a three-match series between India and Afghanistan on Saturday. This match presents a significant opportunity for captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer as they approach the impressive milestone of 3,000 runs in One Day Internationals.
As of now, Shreyas Iyer has accumulated 2,977 runs in 76 ODIs, playing 70 innings with an impressive average of 46.51 and a strike rate of 98.51. His record includes five centuries and 23 fifties. However, his recent form has been less than stellar, managing only 60 runs in three ODIs this year, averaging 20.00, with a top score of 49. This dip in performance was a contributing factor to India's defeat against New Zealand in their earlier ODI series.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill is just 47 runs shy of reaching the 3,000-run mark, having scored 2,953 runs in 61 ODIs at an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 99.02, which includes eight centuries and 17 fifties. In his three ODIs this year, Gill has performed better, scoring 135 runs at an average of 45.00, with a strike rate of 95.07, featuring two fifties and a highest score of 56.
