Gujarat Titans Reflect on Match Against Lucknow Super Giants

Ahmedabad, Gujarat - On May 23, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill shared insights following their match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Gill pointed out that the team allowed too many runs while bowling, particularly noting the opponent's scoring during the middle overs.

He highlighted some positives, including the performances of Rutherford and Shahrukh, and stressed the need to regain momentum as they approach the playoffs.

“We conceded an additional 15-20 runs. Our goal was to restrict them to around 210. There’s a significant difference between 210 and 230. We bowled well during the powerplay but failed to take any wickets. After that, they amassed around 180 runs in the next 14 overs, which was excessive. We were competitive until the 17th over, but chasing 240 was always going to be tough. However, Rutherford and Shahrukh's batting was a major positive for us. Regaining momentum is crucial, and we aim to return to winning form as we head into the playoffs,” Gill remarked during the post-match presentation.

Lucknow Super Giants' bowlers, William O'Rourke and Akash Singh Maharaj, delivered impressive performances, leading LSG to a decisive 33-run victory over Gujarat Titans.

Despite this loss, GT remains at the top of the IPL points table with 9 wins and 4 losses from 13 matches, totaling 18 points. In contrast, LSG is currently in sixth place with 6 wins and 7 losses, accumulating 12 points.

Gill scored 35 runs off 20 balls, hitting seven fours before being dismissed by Avesh Khan in the 8th over. This season, Gill has been in excellent form, amassing 636 runs in 13 innings, including 6 fifties, with an impressive average of 57.82.

GT's next challenge will be against the Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, in their final league match on Sunday, May 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
